About Bergen YMCA Hostel
Bergen YMCA Hostel is where you will find central, reasonably priced, quality accommodation.
At Bergen YMCA Hostel you will meet friendly staff as well as backpackers, sporting clubs, families and other guests from all over the world.
Our hostel has 19 guestrooms with between 2 and 6 beds, with 84 beds in total. All of these rooms have a private bathroom and kitchenette. In the Summer Season we have an extra 72 beds spread across 4 spacious Budget Dormitories.
In addition to our modern and comfortable guestrooms, we have several relaxing common areas for guest use.
- Peisestuen is a light and spacious common room where you can enjoy a tasty meal or relax over a game of cards with other guests. If you have your own laptop, you can take advantage of the free WiFi anywhere in the hostel. During Summer we serve a delicious breakfast buffet, and the Peisestuen is a popular spot to start the day!
- If you are after somewhere cosier, or just want to relax in front of the TV, we recommend our TV lounge. Here you can also unwind with a good book that you have found in our book exchange, or surf the net at our Internet Cafe.
- If you start feeling peckish, you can prepare a snack in the kitchenette in your room. Our fully equipped guest kitchen will make the culinary artists feel right at home too! If you would rather relax and have someone else prepare your gourmet feast, try Pygmalion, the organic restaurant on the 1st floor of the hostel.
- Special tip: Take the elevator to the 4th floor of the hostel and experience the best room in the house! During Winter you can experience the beautiful early sunsets, and enjoy all the city lights laid out before you. In Summer our outdoor area is the envy of the town! Here you can BBQ or even sunbathe if you like! Regardless of the season, our Roof Terrace is the place to take a deep breath and revel in the city spread out at your feet.

History
Our history as accommodation began in the early 1990's as an 'Interrail Point' during the Summer. After a simple beginning of mattresses laid out on the ground, we soon saw the opportunity to offer travelers a higher standard of accommodation. Between 1996 and 2000 there were more than 20 million kroner invested in renovating and upgrading the hostel to make it what it is today. Since then we have had a strong focus on maintaining a high quality throughout the house.
Bergen Ymca Hostel is owned and run by Bergen KFUK-KFUM Ynlingen (Bergen YMCA & YWCA). The association began in 1875 under the name Bergen Ynglingeforening. In 1896 the association became a part of Norway's KFUM (YMCA) and moved into the nearby building we are in today at Nedre Korskirkeallmenningen 4.
